My Story by Dave Pelzer

Gory. That word best describes the extreme physical and emotional abuse Dave Pelzer suffered at the hands of his alcoholic, mentally ill mother. Referring to her child as “It” rather than using his personal name, betrayed her view and treatment of him as less than human. Years of horrific, gory abuse would have destroyed almost anyone.

The little boy Dave Pelzer, however, wasn’t just anyone. What was it about him – or something within him – that allowed him to survive, to escape, to heal, and eventually grow up to be a man of peace, accomplishment, caring and renown?

We find answers to these questions in My Story. My Story contains in one volume Dave Pelzer’s first three autobiographical books:

  • A Child Called It: One Child’s Courage to Survive
  • The Lost Boy: A Foster Child’s Search for the Love of a Family
  • A Man Named Dave: A Story of Triumph and Forgiveness

Together, in My Story, these books reveal the astounding secrets of Dave’s journey from the gore of his childhood to the glory of his manhood.
